How to grow your radishes
Your little packet of radish seeds can be sown anytime between March and September, give or take. Here’s how:
Pick a spot: Choose a sunny patch of fine soil in the garden, or a window box filled with peat-free compost.
Plant the seeds: Water the soil before you plant. Sow the seeds directly in the earth about 5mm deep and 3cm apart.
Water regularly: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Radishes grow quickly and need consistent moisture to develop well.
Thin the seedlings: Once they sprout (usually within a week), thin them out so they're about 5cm apart. This helps them have enough space to grow but I always have to steel myself to do it.
Harvest often: Radishes grow fast—most are ready in 4 weeks - and become woody if left in the ground, so pull them up once they’re about the size of a gobstopper.
That’s it! Just brush the soil off and tuck in.
